Ingredients for Chicken Lettuce Wraps

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 pound ground chicken

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 onion, diced

1/4 cup hoisin sauce

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar

1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger

1 tablespoon Siracha (optional)

1 8-ounce can whole water chestnuts, drained and diced (this is also optional, and I choose to not include them)

2 green onions, thinly sliced

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 head butter lettuce (I used romaine because that’s what I had)

Directions to Make Chicken Lettuce Wraps

Lettuce wraps
  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium high heat. Add ground chicken and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes. Make sure to crumble chicken as it cooks; drain excess fat. This tool is great for crumbling chicken & ground beef!
  2. Stir in garlic, onion, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, ginger and sriracha until onions have become translucent, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Store in chestnuts and green onions until tender, about 1-2 minutes. season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. To serve, spoon several tablespoons of the chicken mixture into the center of a lettuce leaf, taco style.
  5. Pair with Thai style peanut sauce (my favorite is from Wegman’s). Enjoy!

Recipe Variations:

  • Protein – The chicken can be substituted for ground turkey or tofu, if preferred.
  • Vegetables – Feel free to add some of your favorite diced veggies – peppers, onions, etc. all go great in the lettuce wraps.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

I prefer to eat them the traditional way – as lettuce wraps!  However, for my kids, I usually pair these Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps with noodles or rice, usually with homemade fried rice which my kids love. For more quick meal ideas, check out my post on 3 delicious options for busy weeknights!
