A Week In My Life: Stay At Home Edition

We are now in week 10 of the COVID-19 stay at home order and I wanted to share what a week in my life looks like. We are going a bit stir crazy, but overall managing it well. I must preface this and say I am super grateful for my health and the health of my family and for all of the essential workers risking their lives to service the community.

Like everyone I have been trying to find a balance. It’s a lot. The kids, the adults…no one in our lifetime has experienced anything like this and I think it’s okay to not be okay sometimes. Nevertheless we have to keep pushing through and do what we need to in order to make it work.

Since something like this is so unprecedented I wanted to document it in a way, and share. So with that said, let’s recap what a week in my life looks like, shall we?

A Week In My Life

Relaxing in the yard

The weather was gorgeous this past week. We put up our pool and have been spending a lot of time outside. Our garden is flourishing and right now I have red peppers, lavender, tomatoes, basil, and green peppers growing. I am looking forward to more sunshine, warmer days and more time in the backyard with the kids.

School

School is….stressful. I have one daughter in 3rd grade and the other is in Kindergarten. Between the weekly sheets with page long lists of things to do, google classroom assignments and Zoom calls – there has been more than one moment of overwhelm. Patience and structure is definitely key. Right now my girls work from 10-12pm on their school work and having this block of time has been extremely helpful.

Not feeling the school work

My youngest daughter’s teacher is planning on a “sidewalk visit” this coming week where she stops by each person in the class’ house and they decorate a birdhouse together. Kylie is really looking forward to this. The dedication and thoughtfulness of our teachers is amazing. Teachers are so underpaid and unappreciated, but they help shape our children. My kids love and miss their teachers and I know their teachers love and miss them too. It breaks my heart school is closed for the year. We are remaining hopeful that they will return to school in the fall because they really miss the classroom setting.

Work

I consider myself lucky to be able to work from home during this pandemic. My biggest challenge is to find a quiet space to be uninterrupted for 30 minutes to an hour to complete a session via telehealth/video calling. It is not the easiest to counsel someone via phone but I’ve been trying to make it work.

A lot of times I will email my clients a worksheet ahead of time to complete and we will discuss it during our call. Some are having a really hard time during this pandemic and being available to them via telehealth has been a blessing. My hours have been a bit all over the place but I am usually done for the day by 5 or 6pm.

Meal Plan

Since the stay at home order commenced we have been cooking at home almost every day. You can check out how I am meal planning, here or go to my Pinterest page for more meal ideas.

BBQ chicken from Uncle Buck’s BBQ

Recently, for the first time in several weeks we have started to order from places that are open for takeout. We are trying out some (new to us) local restaurants to support small businesses. Yesterday we tried a BBQ place which was delicious. I ordered BBQ chicken with mashed potatoes and fire roasted corn and it was amazing.

Fun

Feeding squirrels in the park

The best part of staying at home is all of the quality time we have together as family. It has been fun playing a ton of board games including HEDBANZ, Bingo, Twister, UNO, and Monopoly to name a few. My kids love playing Roblox and my husband and I have downloaded it onto our phones and have played some Roblox games with our kids when they have screen time. My favorite Roblox game is A Wolf Or Other. The kids get a kick out of us trying to play with them. There has also been a ton of time spent outside in the yard, or social distancing at a park (which we have been to twice).

Making our own pizzas

The girls have been helping me cook as well. We made muffins, cookies, and banana bread together. One night this past week we had some fun making our own pizzas.

We enjoy “snuggle nights” as our girls call them, where we lay on the couches with blankets and watch a movie together. When the kids are in bed the hubby and I will watch a scary movie or one of our shows. For my guilty pleasure I am loving RHONY, RHOBH, and KUWTK. No judging. My husband and I have also been watching the episodes of The Last Dance about Michael Jordan…..which is super interesting to watch.

Happy Mail

EC Order

In another not so surprising move to cure boredom I have been spending a litttttttle bit too much time online shopping. I placed a huge (for me) order on the Erin Condren site on launch day for EC Insiders. The package arrived last week and includes the new Daily Duo planner which I bought work. The planner begins in July and I am excited to dive in and get started. I bought my girls two notebooks as well as some accessories and pens for my new planner.

Scentsy goodies

Another purchase I was some items from Scentsy that came this week. One of my friends is an Independent Consultant and I like to support her hustle. I love the mini warmers and the spring and summer scents have my house smelling amazing (hibiscus pineapple is fav).

I hope you enjoyed seeing what a week in my life during this quarantine looks like. How are you guys doing? My hope is that you are all safe, healthy and doing well.

We will get through this together! If you need someone to talk to, please feel free to email me @ Mommyaboveall@yahoo.com. I am happy to lend a listening ear and provide support to anyone who needs it. Let me know your struggles or triumphs during this time below in the comment section.

With that said, I wish you all more weeks of health, peace, and perseverance because this is not easy. Until next time my friends! XO
