If you are new to the couponing world – Dollar General is probably the BEST place to get your feet wet and get the hang of how to coupon. Couponing may seem intimidating but I assure you it is so much easier now than it was just a couple of years ago. So grab your favorite drink & let’s dive right in on how to coupon at Dollar General.
Download the Dollar General App on your Phone — it’s totally free
Once you download the DG app and create a free account, you can start clipping DG digital coupons. Hit the Coupons & Cash Back Button on the app and add whatever coupons you plan on using by hitting the little plus sign on the coupon. Once you add Dollar General digital coupons to your account, you’ll redeem them at checkout using your phone number.
Combine Sale Items with Coupons to Get The Most Bang For Your Buck
You can check out sale items by looking at the weekly ad that is available on the app. Often times toothpaste, shampoo, laundry items etc go on sale and when you combine that with a coupon – it’s extra savings!
Make A List of Deal Ideas
As I go through the ad I write down items that I want to get (I keep track of the retail or sale price as well as how much the coupon takes off). I always go into the store with a list of deal ideas with prices included. I also include different product options just in case something I wanted in my original deal is out of stock (this happens a lot at DG). That way I can replace it and still use my $5/25 coupon. Definitely bring a pen and paper for some quick math to ensure you get the best bang for your buck! Remember your items all need to total $25 before the coupons for the $5 coupon to apply. You can also check me out on Tik Tok – I have a bunch of videos of my deals and break downs at Dollar General.
Scan Your Items in Store To Make Sure The Coupons Apply
Sometimes coupons exclude certain scents or types of product or there is a glitch and the coupon just doesn’t attach. A quick scan of the items in store will help show you that the coupon will work and apply to the product when you check out.
Dollar General offers “$5 off a $25 purchase” store coupons every Saturday (And sometimes Mon-Fri)
This is one of the main reasons I love couponing at Dollar General. Every week DG offers a $5/25 coupon in the app as well as printed out on the bottom of your receipts. That extra $5 off is a great way to save over 60% on products and help build up your stockpile. Most of the time they only offer it on Saturdays which is typically the only day I will coupon at DG but on rare occasions they will also give a $5/$25 Mon-Fri coupon which is amazing. The key for using this coupon is you have to make sure the total (before coupons) for all of your products is $25.
Use rebate apps like Fetch and Ibotta on top of DG coupons/digital coupons and sale prices.
I love using Fetch for ALL of my receipts – who doesn’t like to earn points that can be redeemed for gift cards just for scanning a receipt on things you are already buying? This is how I score my Bath & Body Works stuff for super cheap because I redeem my points for Bath & Body Works or Amazon Gift Cards – perfect for Christmas time too!
If you haven’t downloaded Fetch yet – do it now using my code 1TCXK and we will both receive free points towards free gift cards!
The Ibotta app is just as easy. After purchasing the specified item for a rebate offer, snap a picture of your receipt in the app, and the app will give you cash back. Best part? You can use store and manufacturer coupons in addition to most rebate-app offers all on the same item. Check the fine print on offers carefully, though. You can use my referral code xwhdype and you will receive $5 when you submit your first receipt.
Once you’ve earned the minimum cash-out amount in whatever rebate app you use — like $20 for Ibotta — you transfer your earnings into a PayPal or Venmo account. Or redeem earnings for a gift card with Fetch Rewards (it has a $3 cash-out minimum).
I am telling you – if you are not couponing at Dollar General you are missing out on some great savings! Every week you can save tons on laundry products, household needs, beauty items, hygiene products, medicine etc. By couponing at Dollar General, you can save money on items that you use every day with less than $20 a week and build an awesome stockpile. I am living proof that it can be done and you don’t have to break the bank to do it. To see some of my past couponing hauls – you can check them out here. Happy Couponing! Let me know if you score! Xx
